The riverside promenade and the brick mansions of the former British, Russian, French, German and Japanese concessions. Li Huangpi Road is the pretty street; the ferry is the best ¥1.5 in China.
The story
Hankou opened as a treaty port in 1861 and was called the 'Chicago of the East'. The Customs House clock still rings on the hour. Take the ferry from Wuhan Pier (武汉关) to Zhonghua Road for the classic river crossing.
